Hi, I am Jessica Van Dusen. I teach middle school and high school math. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Sociology from the University of Michigan and an elementary teaching certificate from Eastern Michigan University. I am currently working on a secondary teaching certificate from Schoolcraft College. When I have time, I enjoy playing golf and watching television; especially Michigan football!
In this classroom, students learn and apply mathematical concepts to real-life situations. Students have the opportunity to collaborate with classmates or work individually at their own pace. Concepts are taught with the perspective of knowing how and why they can be used in higher education and/or the work force.
Middle school students explore foundational skills in a deeper manner in order to apply these skills at the high school level. They also explore ways that concepts can be used later in his/her lives. Students practice these foundational skills until mastery has been achieved. There are opportunities for projects to enhance learning, including designing a house and creating a board game.
